The Reading Corner

Okay, I have decided to provide a running list of books to read on all subjects military (and maybe others like woodworking down the road; my other passion). I will provide you the title and a short synopsis of the book and why it’s worth reading. So here goes. I’ll of course start with the two novels I have written: Operation Desert Vengeance and Tripwire. Be advised that as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases but the price remains the same.

Operation Desert Vengeance is a story about a war in Iraq that occurred in 1999. It’s about soldiers, leadership and tactics. It’s also about American soldiers in combat. Those who have read it, have enjoyed it. Here’s the link: https://amzn.to/2mLL1LZ

I have also written a book on a hypothetical war in Korea, current day titled Tripwire. Some of the characters in Operation Desert Vengeance are also in Tripwire. If interested, read Operation Desert Vengeance first. Both can be read as stand alones however. Again, it’s about soldiers and soldiering, leadership and combat. I have read literally thousands of books on warfare over the last sixty years. Some are worth rereading as time goes by. One of those is the Campaigns of Napoleon written by David Chandler. This is a weighty book of over one thousand pages but it exceptionally readable unlike most of the history books I have found on the Napoleonic era. Chandler was a National Service officer in the British army in the early 1950’s, then went on to teach military history at Sandhurst after he left the service. He unfortunately passed away at the age of only 70 in 2004. Of the hundreds of books I have read on the Napoleonic Wars, this one is the go to book. You will also find a very concise description of how Napoleon maneuvered and fought which was the grand daddy of Blitzkrieg and modern maneuver warfare. Here is the link and it’s worth the price as it is out of print:
